
Chamoli. The avalanche in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand has been over 26 hours. In this disaster, 57 workers working in the Border Road Organization Project were affected, two of which were on leave. So far, 47 workers have been evacuated safely, while efforts are being made to be evacuated at 8. The Army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Border Road Organization, State Disaster Response Force and National Disaster Response Forces are constantly trying. The bad weather rescue is obstructing the operation, but the army’s Mi-17 helicopter is placed on the standby. As soon as the weather improves, the rescue operation will be intensified.
CM Dhami reached ground zero
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has reached the ground zero of Chamoli and is monitoring the rescue operation. He said that every effort is being made to evacuate the workers trapped in the avalanche near Manda. 14 workers were rescued on Saturday morning, while 3 seriously injured workers have been admitted to the Army Hospital in Joshimath.
Uttarakhand Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman said that rescue operations are going on continuously and soon all the stranded workers will be evacuated safely. According to the list released by Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority, stranded workers belong to other states including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir. The teams engaged in rescue work are busy with full vigor and it is expected that the remaining workers will also be taken out safely.
