
The surrender of weapons continues after President’s rule in Manipur. On Wednesday, people of 6 districts have deposited weapons with their desire. Giving information about this, the police said that a total of 104 weapons and ammunition have been handed over to the security forces in 6 districts of Manipur. Most of the weapons were handed over in Imphal West district. These include 12 carbine machine guns and magazines. After the order of Rajpal, many weapons have been surrendered.
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla had spoken of the police voluntarily handed over to the police within seven days. He had assured that no punitive action would be taken against those who leave arms during this period. He insisted that after the end of this period, the security forces will take action.
President’s rule was imposed in Manipur on 13 February
Since May 2023, more than 250 people have been killed in ethnic violence between groups living in Maetai and nearby mountainous areas in the Imphal Valley. Thousands of people have become homeless. A few days after Chief Minister N. Biren Singh resigned from his post, political uncertainty arose in the Northeast State. The Kendra government implemented President’s rule in Manipur on 13 February. According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Manipur Assembly, which is up to 2027, has been suspended.
CM N Biren resigns on 9 February
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh submitted his resignation to the governor on 9 February. Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla accepted the resignation. Biren Singh was under considerable pressure due to the violence in the state for 21 months. Opposition parties were also constantly asking NDA questions on this issue. Before the decision to resign, Biren Singh met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Sunday morning, after which the resignation was given.
