
Bengaluru. Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao on Thursday announced a ban on using plastic in making idli. He said that the investigation by the Food Safety Department of Karnataka revealed that 52 hotels were using polythene sheets to prepare Idli.
Polythene sheet risk of cancer
Polythene sheets are at risk of cancer. Despite this, hotels are being played with people’s health by using these sheets. Action has been taken against 54 people across the state in this case.
The Health Minister said, the Food Safety Department collected idli samples from 251 places across Karnataka. Earlier clothes were used to cook idli, but we came to know that hotels have recently started using plastic. So the authorities went to various places and investigated.

The minister said, 52 of 251 hotels were found to be using plastic. Hotel traders should never do this because plastic carcinogenic is, which means that it can cause cancer. The use of polythene sheets is at risk of cancer -causing elements reaching idli.
Ban on use of plastic in idli cooking
The minister said that action has been started in this regard. The Health Minister later posted on X, in, the use of plastic (polythene) in preparing idli is increasing, causing serious health risk. The use of plastic in Idli cooking has been banned for protecting people’s health.
Use of plastic in preparing idli is serious to health
When plastic is used to prepare idli, toxic chemicals dissolve in food, causing a serious risk of consumers’ health. I urge all hotels to stop this practice immediately and use safe options such as stainless steel plates or banana leaves.
