The work of removing debris and opening roads continues.
Harshil has an avalanche due to heavy snowfall on the Gangotri highway. Snow, debris and boulder fell into the highway and Bhagirathi river. However, the movement on the highway was closed, causing no major accidents. The avalanche on the highway took place on Friday afternoon. The Indian Army rescued 14 civilians from an avalanche place on Saturday morning. Search and rescue operations have been conducted for the last 24 hours. Rescue operation has increased due to the calm weather on Saturday. The Indian Army has shifted Joshimath to Joshimath for treatment of three injured personnel through civil helicopters hired. These laborers regularly work for the army to remove snow and were buried in the debris due to avalanche.
Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman said, the weather is going on continuously. The Chief Minister is constantly monitoring the situation. The Chief Minister visited the control room twice. He took detailed information on everything. Rescue and relief operations are going on fast. Till yesterday, 33 out of 55 people were rescued. Rescue and relief work is going on for the remaining 22 people. There is a preparation to send more than 200 people on the spot (for rescue work). Four helicopters are working. More facilities will be taken if needed. An MI-17 helicopter of the Indian Air Force is on the standby, it will reach here as soon as the weather is cleared. Vinod Kumar said that the weather is getting clear in Joshimath. We are making a helipad near Mana, because our helipad is covered with snow. The ice removal work continues. We hope that rescue and relief work will be further accelerated after the helipad is ready. Rescue work was stopped at night due to frequent snowfall. The night operation was stopped at night to ensure that rescue and relief parties were not threatened. Work has started again since Saturday morning. Our medical team is ready in Joshimath.
