Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a review meeting on implementation of new criminal laws in Goa


Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Monday that Goa should set a standard and become an ideal state in implementing three new criminal laws effectively.

While presiding over the review meeting of three new criminal laws, Shah emphasized the importance of strictly following the goal of providing justice. He also highlighted the need to get a rate of 90 percent conviction in criminal cases with a punishment of more than seven years.

Asked to stop misuse of provisions
He asked senior police officers to regularly monitor cases related to the murder by organized crime, terrorism and mob to prevent misuse of related procedures.

The Home Minister, after registering the case under these sections, took the permission of the Superintendent of Police level and directed that the property recovered from the criminals should be returned to its correct owners as per the procedures of the new laws.

He instructed to strictly follow this target, emphasizing the need to obtain 100 percent forensic sample test.

New laws came into force on 1 July
In fact, the Indian Code, Indian Civil Protection Code and Indian Evidence Act have replaced the Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code and Indian Evidence Act of 1872 respectively.

These laws came into effect from 1 July last year. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who was present on the occasion, said that Goa will set a national standard by implementing these laws effectively.
After the meeting, he said in the X post, “I again confirm my commitment that Goa will set an example by implementing these laws with strong confidence to maintain justice and strengthen the legal structure for our citizens.”
