Recently, World Wildlife Day has been celebrated on March 3, it was revealed on the occasion that India has 6 thousand 327 river dolphins. Most of the dolphins are in Uttar Pradesh, while according to the report, Punjab is the least in Punjab.

For the first time in the country, a report has been prepared about how many river dolphins are. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday released the first figures regarding the number of dolphins. There are 6,327 river dolphins in India and about 90 percent of them live in the Ganges or its tributaries.

The population of river dolphin suggests that most of them live in the Ganges River or Brahmaputra river either. Only three have been found in the Beas river. There are 3,275 dolphins in the Ganges, while there are 2,414 in the tributaries of the Ganges, 584 in Brahmaputra, 51 in the tributaries of Brahmaputra and 3 dolphins in Beas River. The number of these dolphins has been revealed under the project dolphin. Project dolphins have been started to save these species.

This is the first figure of river dolphin. However, scientists of the Indian Wildlife Institute did a study in 2018. According to this study, the number of species of dolphin has been recorded at least 50-65% since the 19th century. Dolphins are anthropogenic and affected by natural threats, due to pollution in the river, they are also damaged.
The Prime Minister released the report of Project Dolphin after presiding over the National Wildlife Board meeting in Gir, Gujarat. Emphasizing the importance of awareness on dolphin conservation with local population and villagers participation in areas, the PM advised the forest officials to organize the exposure visit of school children in dolphin housing areas.

At the same time, PM also inaugurated the Vantara Wildlife Rescue, Rehabilitation and Conservation Center in Gujarat. During this, he also visited Vantara.
