
Guwahati. The Assam government has said that it will have its own satellite. This will help in collecting data for the implementation of important socio-economic projects in addition to monitoring the border.
Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Niyog made this announcement while presenting the state budget for 2025-26. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma later claimed that Assam will be the first state in the country to have its own satellite.

The Finance Minister in his budget speech said that in collaboration with the Central Government’s Space Department, we want to install our own satellite ‘Assamsat’ to ensure a continuous, reliable flow of data for the implementation of important socio-economic projects.
The Chief Minister later addressed a press conference and said that if we have our own satellite, it will be able to tell us whether a foreigner is trying to enter illegally.
Sarma said that it will be able to give prior information about the upcoming floods. Will help in meteorological reports. This will benefit our farmers.
