Bhopal. The Cathlab in Hamidia Hospital attached to Gandhi Medical College will remain closed from January, as it is to be shifted to the third floor of the new building Block A. At present the Cathlab is operating in the old building. Civil work in the new building has been completed but the shifting process will continue for the next three months. During this period, cathlab facility will not be available to the patients. The department has given a budget of Rs 50 lakh for this work. In such a situation, doctors believe that if there has been such a delay, then the shifting work should start after winter, because in the winter months (December-February), the cases of heart attack increase three to four times. During this time, Cathlab is needed the most. According to statistics, between December and February, 200-250 procedures are done every month in Cathlab. These include angiography, angioplasty, pacemaker, device closure, balloon dilatation and other cardiac treatments. At the government level, Cathlab facility is available in only three hospitals in the capital Bhopal.
Delay in shifting of Cathlab
The shifting of Cathlab is getting delayed. A budget of Rs 50 lakh has been given from the Public Health and Medical Education Department for the shifting of Cathlab. The old building has to be completely demolished. For this it is necessary that the lab be shifted first. This is the reason why planning for lab shifting has been going on since the month of January. Surprisingly, the first proposal was made to shift to the third floor of the new building A. Regarding this, the engineers argued that the construction of the building was not as per the standards of Cathlab. After this five different plans were made. In the end only the first proposal was approved.
