Announcing this, NCERT Director Dinesh Prasad Saklani said that for the first time the prices of books have been reduced drastically. This year NCERT has brought considerable efficiency in the procurement of paper and has also added printers with latest printing machines.
Due to which more books can be printed in less time. This will directly benefit the students of the country, especially those students who are going to classes 9-12 from the next session.
Books will also be available online
Class 1-8 textbooks will continue to be retailed at Rs 65 per copy. During the event, an MoU was signed between NCERT and Flipkart as well as Amazon to increase the reach of NCERT textbooks. Let us tell you that the National Council of Educational Research and Training publishes about 4 to 5 crore textbooks in about 300 subjects every year.
Big question: Should private schools use books?
The Parents Federation has raised questions regarding the books used in schools. Prabodh Pandey, General Secretary of Parents Federation, said that NCERT has decided to make its books cheaper, which is welcome. But the question is where private schools use NCERT books. In such a situation, whether you give 20% discount on books or reduce the price by 50%, students and parents will get the benefit only when private schools use these books.
For the sake of commission, only expensive books from private publishers are used.
