The councilors have written a letter to Mayor Ramsharan Yadav demanding to call a special general body meeting. The letter has the signatures of 34 Congress councilors including all the chairmen of the Mayor-in-Council.
The letter states that the general meeting has not been called even after more than a year. Due to this the development work of the city has been affected. Whereas it is mandatory to have two to four general body meetings in a year. Despite this, not calling the general body meeting is an injustice to the public. Due to the absence of the meeting, important policy decisions for the residents of the city have been delayed. Many works have been affected due to lack of decision. Therefore, using his powers, the Mayor should immediately call a special meeting under Section 30 of the Corporation Act 1956.
Piles of problems due to absence of meeting
It has been told in the letter that for the last one year the corporation has not organized even a single general meeting. This body is against the Act. It has been said in the letter that the tenure of the present corporation government is going to end on January 4. Due to absence of general meeting for the last one year, fundamental problems have piled up in the wards. Cleanliness is the biggest and burning problem. In the upcoming cleanliness survey, discussion is necessary for Bilaspur also in the general meeting. Apart from this, there are many other issues including drinking water, the solution of which is possible only during the discussion in the general meeting.
The Mayor has the right to act, the Corporation Commissioner can be forced to do so.
All 34 councilors said that under Section 30 of the Municipal Act, the Mayor has the right to call a special general meeting on the demand of more than one-third of the councilors. He should force the Commissioner to call a special general meeting. This is necessary in public interest.
