
Hyderabad. 31 -year -old Alkunta Sampat, a resident of Pedapalli district of Telangana, died in Nizamabad police custody. Sampat was arrested on 4 March on charges of human trafficking in Thailand, Laos and Myanmar on Sampat. Family members have accused the police of third degree torture, while the police say Sampat died of a heart attack. The case is being investigated under the Supreme Court and the National Human Rights Commission Protocol.
Talk that the deceased Sampat used to run a manpower recruitment office in Jagityal. The police allege that the youth of Telangana were seduced and sent to Thailand, Laos and Myanmar, where they were pushed into cyber slavor. On March 12, Sampat was taken into police custody to cooperate in the investigation. On March 13, the police took Sampat from his office Shriram International Manpower Consultancy, from where two mobile phones were confiscated. Sampat was brought back to the cybercrime police station in Nizamabad at 9:45 pm. According to the police, two people were together to ensure transparency in the entire process.
Sampat complained of fatigue and left hand pain at around 10:10 pm. After this, Sampat was taken to the government hospital in Nizamabad. A police officer said that CCTV footage shows that Sampat himself walked and admitted to the hospital. Police Commissioner P Sai Chaitanya said that at 11:29 pm, Sampat suddenly got cardiac arrest and he fell. Despite all the efforts of the medical team, Sampat could not be saved. Doctors have described the cause of death heart attack.
According to the police commissioner, CCTV footage shows that he himself walked and admitted to the hospital. After Sampat’s death, an FIR has been lodged under Section 196 of the Indian Justice Code at I Town Police Station in Nizamabad and investigation has been started.
However, angry families have demanded to register a case of murder and suspend them against the policemen involved. A tense situation remained in the hospital, where Sampat’s family protested and alleged that he had been tortured and killed. He has demanded a compensation of Rs 50 lakh and a government job for a family member.
