Raipur. The Municipality Amendment Bill presented by Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao was passed in the absence of the opposition on the third day of the winter session of the Chhattisgarh Assembly. Congress MLAs boycotted the discussion on the amendment bill, calling it against the Constitution. Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao presented the Chhattisgarh Municipality (Amendment) Bill 2024 in the House. The amendment bill mentions extension of tenure in case elections are not held on time.
Urban Administration Minister Arun Sao said that this amendment will create a strong urban government. Minister Arun Sao said that the Mayor and Nagar Panchayat President will be able to work fearlessly. But Congress boycotted the discussion, calling it against the Constitution. In the absence of Congress, the Municipal Corporation Amendment Bill was passed by voice vote.
