Many roads of Bhopal became hotspots of death
Bhopal . There has been a 25 percent increase in the number of deaths in accidents this year as 193 people lost their lives in 2,435 road accidents compared to last year. According to traffic police data, 1,865 people were also injured between January 1 and October 31 this year. In 2023, 155 people died in 2,498 road accidents, while 1,917 people were injured in the city during the same period. The traffic police said speeding was the main reason for the fatal road accidents recorded this year. Officials stressed that people should understand that city roads are not suitable for speeding their high-end bikes and SUVs, which have a maximum speed of 150-200 kmph. Once again, the jurisdiction of Misrod police station emerged as the deadliest area of the city in terms of road accident injuries.
What are the figures saying?
According to traffic police data, 22 people died in road accidents in Misrod between January 1 and October 31 this year, which is the highest number of deaths in road accidents in the city. Local police officials have identified Hoshangabad Road in Misrod area as a high accident prone area. The primary causes of accidents include cut points at road dividers and roads connecting residential colonies to the main highway. The situation has improved significantly with the removal of the BRTS corridor, but the widening of the road has increased the speed of vehicles. Many accidents occur because residents of nearby colonies enter the highway carelessly without checking for speeding vehicles coming from the front. Police said drivers should stop completely to ensure that the road is clear, and only then proceed on the highway.
accident prone area
In terms of road accidents, Khajuri area comes next after Misrod, where 20 people lost their lives in road accidents during this period. Here Bhopal-Indore Highway, Bhauri Bypass and village roads have been identified as accident prone areas. Ratibar has become the third deadliest area, with 13 people dying in road accidents from January to October this year. After this is the place of Koh-e-Fiza, where 11 people died in road accidents, followed by Bairagarh and Bagh Sevaniya, where 10-10 people died in road accidents this year.
The challan is also more than last time.
A senior traffic official said that the traffic police has issued 63,318 challans to traffic violators so far this year 2024, which is more than the challans issued during the same period in 2023. This year, more than 34,000 people were fined for not wearing helmets, while more than 8,800 people were fined for not wearing seatbelts. Despite strictness, people are violating traffic rules.
Mistakes made in engineering of roads will be analyzed
DCP (Traffic) Sanjay Singh said that speeding has been found to be the main reason in almost 90 percent of fatal road accidents in the city. Apart from this, negligence in following traffic rules and safety measures causes accidents. With the advancement in technology, vehicles are becoming more and more advanced and people drive them at high speeds without realizing that city roads are not suitable for such high speeds. He said that joint teams of road construction agencies, BMC, PWD, district administration and traffic police will analyze the road engineering mistakes on the city roads and work to resolve the problems.
Police gave advice
Police said that if a road accident occurs, the injured should be taken to the nearest hospital as soon as possible. Immediate medical care can save life. People should help road accident victims if they pass through the area. He said that people should always wear helmet and seat belt while riding a two-wheeler or car and should not drink and drive.
