• India has received strong international support, with leaders such as President Trump and President Putin expressing solidarity. This has further isolated Pakistan, though Devasher suggests that Pakistan, given its current trajectory, may not change its stance.

Pahalgam terror attack live: Sharing his experience in Pahalgam, KS Chouhan, Joint Director of the Uttarakhand Information Department, described the fear and panic that gripped tourists after the terror attack. “…We were staying in a hotel surrounded by forest near the site of the incident, so we were scared and stayed awake the entire night… There were around 150 tourists in the hotel. No one even thought of sleeping. When dinner was served, no one had the courage to go to the dining area. Some ordered food to their rooms, while others chose to go hungry. Everyone was terrified…”

He added that the impact was deeply felt, noting that “we had been visiting different places since 19th April and saw joy on people’s faces up until 22nd April. The locals told us their livelihood relies heavily on tourism, which was hit hard during Covid-19 and only revived over the past 2–2.5 years… The people were extremely cooperative and humble… This incident may have set back tourism in the region for years, possibly…”

He said, “The entire nation is saddened by the brutality with which terrorists killed innocent civilians in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on 22nd April… I want to say in very clear words that these terrorists and those who conspired towards this attack will get a punishment bigger than they can imagine. The willpower of 140 crore Indians will now break the back of the masters of terror.”

He said, “The government is doing its work and we trust the government…They will do justice…Vinay was a very good child…he died like a brave soldier… The country is with me…God will give strength to my family to face this unbearable pain and irreplaceable loss…She (my daughter-in-law) has suffered the most…PM Modi and Amit Shah have taken several steps…PM Modi cut short his visit and came back, and this is also a big step…My son was a brilliant student and always came first…He wanted to be a fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force, but due to his height, he was not selected and ultimately chose to serve in the Indian Navy…We have complete faith in the government, and we are hopeful that the government will take the necessary action in the matter…”

Lieutenant Narwal’s mortal remains were flown from Kashmir to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Wednesday afternoon, and later taken to his hometown in Karnal, Haryana. His final rites were performed with full military honours.

We are concerned about the lost lives. We called for a ‘Bandh’ yesterday in solidarity with the people who died. It was not for the loss of our business that we are incurring. They came to us as our guests. We were busy with their hospitality. We wanted the flow of tourists to increase and the unemployment to decrease… The tourism industry is huge here. He underscored that the call for ‘Bandh’ was not driven by financial concerns but to stand in unity with the victims. Kongposh highlighted the region’s reliance on tourism and the pain of losing those who were warmly welcomed as guests.

Pahalgam terror attack live: As members of the Anti-Terror Action Forum and BJP staged a protest outside the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi over the Pahalgam terror attack, BJP leader Dr Harsh Vardhan said UN should declare Pakistan as a State that supports terrorism.

He said, “The BJP in Delhi is expressing the sentiments that are in the hearts of the 140 crore people of India today. We assure PM Modi that we stand with him. It is our demand from the UN and the international community that Pakistan should be declared a state which supports terrorism.”

The Congress Working Committee (CWC) held a meeting on Thursday to discuss “all aspects of the serious attack” in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, party leader Pawan Khera said. Multiple top leaders of the party, including Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, party MPs Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Jairam Ramesh and other Congress leaders are present in the meeting.

“The Congress Working Committee, in its meeting today, strongly condemned the recent Pahalgam terror attack and paid tribute to the innocent lives lost. We stand united in the fight against terrorism,” Congress leader BV Srinivas posted on X.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Thursday condemned the Pahalgam terror attack, saying,”The country has been attacked, so many people have been killed, Pakistan has an indirect hand in this attack because the way terrorist camps run in Pakistan and attacks on our country are carried out from there.”

“There is a need to take tougher decisions than these decisions, and despite being in the opposition, we welcome every decision of the government,” Raut told ANI.

Pakistan has issued a notification regarding the scheduled test of a surface-to-surface missile off its Karachi coast within its Exclusive Economic Zone, ANI reported. The notification was issued by Pakistani agencies at around 2130 Hours (9:30 PM) Indian time, which is around the same time Indian leadership was holding the key Cabinet Committee on Security meeting to take steps against Pakistan for its involvement in the Pahalgam.

Pahalgam terror attack live: Surinder Singh, a Rajasthan resident who was planning to travel to Pakistan today for a family wedding, said, “I was going to Pakistan today for my brother’s wedding, but it will be postponed now. My grandmother and her four sons stay in Pakistan, and her one son stays in India. The attack on tourists (in Pahalgam) was very wrong.”

This comes a day after the Centre ordered the immediate closure of the integrated checkpost at Attari following the Pahalgam terror attack.

Meanwhile, with India issuing a 48-hour deadline for Pakistani nationals in the country under the SVES visa to return, one Pakistani citizen was seen departing through the Attari-Wagah border.

Pahalgam terror attack live: Following the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, Michael Rubin, a former Pentagon official and senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, suggested that recent comments made by Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir may have directly incited the violence.

In a conversation with ANI, Rubin directly accused Islamabad of continuing to support terrorism in the region.

“Certainly that speech seemed to green light terror. Asim Munir said that Kashmir is the jugular vein. What India now needs to do is to cut Pakistan’s jugular. There’s no ifs, ands, or buts. There are no shortcuts anymore. Asim Munir gave the green light,” Rubin stated.

He went on to criticise Pakistan’s history of sheltering terrorist organisations. “We know that Pakistan is home to a myriad of terrorist groups, including Lashkar-e-Taiba… Unfortunately, because of a lack of concerted counter-terror action, because Pakistani diplomats are playing the West for fools, we now have an expansion of the problem, not only in Pakistan but frankly in Bangladesh as well,” he added.

Pahalgam terror attack live: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday assured that steps were being taken to ensure the safety of Kashmiri students studying in other states. Responding to growing concerns online, he said he was in touch with the respective state governments.

His statement came in reply to an X post by National Conference spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar, who urged the CM to intervene amid distressing reports. “Numerous videos showing Kashmiri students nationwide terrified for their safety are being widely shared on social media. Requesting @CM_JnK @OmarAbdullah sb to immediately intervene and speak to his counterparts across the country,” Dar wrote.

Abdullah responded, “The J&K government is in touch with the governments of the states where these reports are originating from. I’m also in touch with my counterpart Chief Ministers in these states & have requested they take extra care.”

Pahalgam terror attack live: American singer Mary Millben has extended her support to India in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, primarily tourists, and left several others injured.

The incident occurred on April 22 at the Baisaran valley meadow.

Millben expressed her grief and solidarity by replying to a post by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which he strongly condemned the attack.

“My beloved #India, I grieve with you in this difficult time following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Innocent tourists never returning home. Mothers mourning their sons. Pahalgam terror attack live: An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in the Dudu-Basantgarh area of Udhampur, Jammu & Kashmir on Thursday.

According to defence spokesperson Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, a gunfight is currently underway, with the Indian Army and J&K Police actively engaged in the operation. Exchange of fire has been confirmed.

The confrontation comes just two days after the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 civilians.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, the Army reported that at least two terrorists were gunned down on Wednesday while attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

• Protesters raised slogans against Pakistan, burning its effigies and flags, while public anger over the killing of innocents poured into the streets.

• Candlelight marches were organised by people from various walks of life as a show of solidarity with the victims.

• In Delhi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) held a candlelight vigil at Jantar Mantar, while Congress’ youth wing conducted a candle march at its Raisina Road office.

• Several traders’ associations in the capital joined the condemnation, holding protests with black ribbons tied around their arms. They also announced a Delhi Bandh on April 25.

• A joint candle march inside Jawaharlal Nehru University was organized by major student unions, including the RSS-backed ABVP, Congress-affiliated NSUI, and left-leaning AISF, all coming together to condemn the attack.

• The Muslim Students Federation (MSF) also participated in a candlelight vigil at Jantar Mantar to honour the victims and demand justice.

• In Kashmir, a shutdown was observed, marking the first time in 35 years that such a response was seen in the Valley, with political parties from all sides denouncing the killings.

Pahalgam terror attack live: The mortal remains of 41-year-old Prashant Satpathy from Balasore district, killed in a terrorist attack at Kashmir’s Pahalgam, arrived here late Wednesday night.

Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday said, “ I express my deep condolences on the passing away of Balasaore resident Prashant Satpathy, who was killed in the Pahalgam terror attack. The state government stands with the family. The government will give financial assistance of ₹20 lakhs and a job to the deceased’s wife. We will also support the education of the child of the deceased.”

Pahalgam terror attack live: In Bengaluru, Karnataka Minister Ramalinga Reddy paid his respects to Bharat Bhushan, who lost his life in the Pahalgam terror attack.

He stated, “The Chief Minister and I have spoken to the grieving family… The funeral will be held at 3 pm, and I will attend… Such incidents should never happen; the central government must take strong action… We must stand united against Pakistan… We fully support the central government, and they should take decisive action.”

Pahalgam terror attack live: A spiritual trip to Kashmir turned into a tragedy for a father-son duo from Gujarat who lost their lives in the Pahalgam terror attack.

According to sources, Yatish Parmar and his son Smit, residents of the Kaliyabid area in Bhavnagar, were part of a 19-member group from the city who travelled to Srinagar on April 16 to attend a discourse by religious preacher Morari Bapu.

Following the event, the group proceeded to Pahalgam in south Kashmir for sightseeing. It was during this leg of their journey on Tuesday that terrorists launched a brutal attack, killing 26 people, including Yatish and Smit.

In a separate but equally devastating incident, Suresh Kalathiya, a tourist from Surat, was also killed in the same attack. He had been vacationing in the valley with his wife and two children when the terrorists opened fire.
