Responsible tourism mission will make rural tourism better: Principal Secretary Shukla

Bhopal: Principal Secretary Tourism and Culture and Managing Director Tourism Board Shri Shiv Shekhar Shukla has said that rural tourism will be made more better under the Responsible Tourism Mission. Principal Secretary Shri Shukla was addressing the International Seminar on Responsible Tourism at Kushabhau Thackeray International Auditorium. He said that during the period of Kovid-19 when tourism in the world had stopped, it was considered in Madhya Pradesh that tourism should be taken in a new direction. Work should be done to promote environment-protection with tourism and reduce carbon footprint. This idea is being realized through Responsible Tourism. The rural hospitality industry is being linked to the community. Along with tourism, opportunities for development and self-employment are becoming available in rural areas. Through this seminar, new information and remedial suggestions will be given on Responsible Tourism, which will further improve the experience of tourists.

Dr. Harold Goodwin, Founder Director of ICRT and Managing Director (MD) of Responsible Tourism Partnership said that the heart of the people of Madhya Pradesh is generous and full of enthusiasm. That’s why it is called Heart of Incredible India. Here the government, NGOs and local communities are working together. As a result, the development of responsible tourism in Madhya Pradesh is taking place in the right direction. The way women are being empowered in tourism is really commendable.

Additional Managing Director Tourism Board Shri Vivek Shrotriya said that the objective of Responsible Tourism is to develop and make the tourist ecosystem in rural areas self-reliant. For this, the government, institutions, NGOs, local administration, community and tourists will have to work together. This would involve the local community being involved in the decision-making process. This will ensure the development of the community along with tourism.

The seminar was organized by ‘International Center for Responsible Tourism’, UK (ICRT) in association with Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board and ADTOI-MP Chapter (Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India). During the seminar on Art Crafts and Cuisine – Benefiting Local Communities by Moderator Dr. Goodwin, Women’s Participation in Tourism in Rural Areas by Moderator Ms. Manisha Pandey, Innovation in Responsible Tourism by Moderator Mr. Rupesh Kumar and Homestays by Moderator Mr. Anirudh Mukherjee But a panel discussion was conducted. In the panel discussion, the ICRT team shared the experiences of responsible tourism in the state and suggested ways to improve it.
