Bhopal: Sagar city has been recognized across the country and the state due to its historical heritage Lakha Banjara Lake. This lake is also the main water source of Sagar city. Under the Smart City Mission of the Urban Administration and Housing Department, the conservation and beautification work of Lakha Banjara Lake has been done at a cost of Rs 111 crore 33 lakh. This historical lake of Sagar city has emerged in front of the city residents in its thrilling new form after being rejuvenated by Sagar Smart City Limited. Organizing events like Jalganga Aarti in lakeside temples will also enhance the religious and spiritual sentiments among the citizens. On the other hand, facilities like state-of-the-art sports and entertainment will provide mental and physical comfort to the tourists. Employment and sources of income will increase with the arrival of tourists.
To clean the lake, drain taping was done by laying 5.5 kilometer pipeline.
In the Smart City project, scientific and technological work has been done in Lakha Banjara Lake spread over a vast area of 400 acres. A hydraulic survey has been done for the conservation of the lake. Through the survey, information about water depth, physical, chemical and biological characteristics of the lake was collected at various sites of the lake. Keeping in mind the biodiversity of the lake, the quality of the water of the lake was tested in the lab. In the lab report, the turbidity value of the lake water was found to be more than 82 JTU, which should not be more than 2.5 JTU. For this reason, to conserve the lake, the work of conserving the lake was started by completely emptying the lake water through gravity. Contaminated water coming out of a total of 41 drains including 4 big and 37 small drains connected to the perimeter of the lake was prevented from reaching the lake. For this, drain taping work was done by laying 5.5 kilometer pipeline in the lake perimeter. Thus about 2 MLD greywater sewerage dirty water has been prevented.
Treatment plant for use of contaminated water
To reuse the dirty water around the lake, a 4 MLD capacity waste water treatment plant has been established towards Monga Badhan. Arrangements have been made to use the treated water for irrigating plants through drip irrigation lines on the lake shore. Arrangements have been made to use the contaminated material obtained from water treatment as fertilizer. In the process of emptying the lake and drying it, 8 lakh cubic meters of silt was taken out of the lake. Due to this, along with increasing the depth of the lake, the ground water conservation capacity has increased. Due to this reason the level of underground water around the lake has also increased.
Lake beautification work
A systematic pathway of about 5 kilometers long has been constructed by installing flags and cobble stones on the banks of the lake. Beautiful plantations and attractive artefacts have been installed around the lake. With the construction of a pathway on the banks of the lake, the citizens of the city will be able to take morning and evening walks. When the water level of the lake increases during rains, sluice gates have been built to bring it to the prescribed level. Pedestrian bridge has also been constructed on Monga Dam. From Chakraghat to Ganeshghat, 8 ghats including a huge 400 meter ghat have been rebuilt with red stone.
installation of statue
The statue of Lakha Banjara, who built this huge lake of Sagar, has been installed near Deendayal Chowk of the city. To make the lake safe from all sides, a boundary wall has been constructed by installing a high iron grill. To make the view of the lake attractive and safe at night, attractive lighting and high mass lighting from street lights have been installed on the pathway. To beautify the lake, development work on different themes has been done on its banks. The series of ancient temples from Ganeshghat to Chakraghat and the outer walls of the historic fort of Sagar have been made attractive by painting. 4 big chhatris and 9 Navagrah Mandaps have been constructed with red stone. Sports zone has also been constructed on the banks of the lake.
development of water park
Monga Bandhan and recreational facilities have been developed at the main entrance of the lake. For water recreation, facilities of paddleboat, motor boat and huge cruise have been made available to the citizens. Food zones for traditional food have been created on the banks of the lake.
