Raipur: Due to negligence of Air India officials, a student was deprived of his air travel. The District Forum has imposed a fine of Rs 91260 on Air India considering the negligence and negligence in service by the officials of the airline company. The Chairman of the Forum has also ordered to pay the fine within 45 days.
Stopped from traveling citing rules
Aditya Srivastava, a resident of New Puraina, had booked three tickets to Berlin (Germany) through Air India on 28 August 2019. The journey was from Raipur to Delhi, then from Delhi to Stockholm and finally from Stockholm to Berlin with a connecting flight. On November 1, 2019, Aditya reached Raipur’s Swami Vivekananda Airport with his luggage to fly to Delhi, but was stopped during security check. He was told that he was carrying more luggage than the prescribed weight.
The airline officials refused to let him travel citing rules, while Aditya offered to pay the fare for the extra luggage. Despite this, the airline officials refused to assist him even though he told them that he was going to Berlin via Delhi for studies.
District Consumer Forum gave decision
Aditya filed the issue in the District Consumer Forum and the decision came after five years. The forum held Air India guilty and ordered them to refund the ticket price to Aditya along with Rs 36,260 and 6 per cent interest. Along with this, Air India was also ordered to pay compensation of Rs 50,000 for denial of travel, mental torture and litigation expenses.
