Cases of religious conversion are continuously coming to light in Balod district of Chhattisgarh. However, this is the first and biggest case where someone can commit suicide due to mental torture due to religious conversion. The matter has come to light from Arjunda police station area of the district, which has forced the society to think. A 35-year-old youth from Arjunda Nagar of the district has committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan in the room of his house due to religious conversion.
Due to this action of the young man, there is mourning in the family. Also, sensation has spread in the area. According to the information received, Gajendra alias Suraj Dewangan, resident of Ward-11 of Arjunda Nagar, father Chandrashekhar Dewangan (35 years) committed suicide. A suicide note has also been found from the young man, in which it is written that his relations with his wife were not good.
According to the information, the young man often had fights with his wife, after which she used to go to her maternal home after the fight. There used to be fights between husband and wife regarding conversion to Christianity. Along with the wife, father-in-law, mother-in-law and brother-in-law’s wife used to pressurize her for conversion. Also used to torture. The young man had lodged a written complaint at Arjunda police station on December 8 regarding his wife’s conversion to her religion and going to her parents’ house after always arguing with them.
Police have found a Bible from the incident site and Rs 18,890 from the pants pocket of the deceased and a donation letter in e-stamp has also been found. Arjunda Police has sealed the room. The police have started investigating the incident. The family members of the deceased told that the young man did not have good relations with his wife, she used to go to her maternal home again and again. Besides, her in-laws used to torture her a lot. The police registered the case under Section 194, conducted Panchnama of the body and after post-mortem, handed over the body of the deceased youth to his family members. The family members of the deceased allege that the young man’s wife, under the pressure of some people from her maternal side, converted to Christianity and often argued with the son. He erased any auspicious or God’s names written on the walls of the house due to which his son was often troubled.
The deceased youth had written a written complaint in the police station, “I, Gajendra Dewangan, father Chandrashekhar Dewangan, who lives in Ward-11 of Arjunda, my wife Rakeshwari Dewangan, who argues with me every day, and leaves the children again and again. She leaves her maternal home, and has adopted Christianity, about which I have objection, about which I am informing, so that appropriate action can be taken.” At the same time, before committing suicide, young Gajendra has accused Prakash Dewangan’s father Kanhaiya Dewangan of taking money from him and not returning the money and of being harassed by his wife, mother-in-law, father-in-law and brother-in-law in the wall of the room.
