Bhopal . About 7 years ago, during the then Shivraj government, 7.25 crore saplings were planted on the banks of river Narmada. Half of these plants have died. In this campaign of tree planting, apart from the Forest Department, seven other departments including Rural Development Department, Agriculture, Horticulture, Forest Development Corporation and Jan Abhiyan Parishad had planted saplings. But due to lack of proper care, 50 percent of the plants have been destroyed.
It is noteworthy that on July 2, 2017, 7.25 crore saplings were planted in a single day in different districts in the Narmada catchment area. Now the Forest Department has not verified how many of them are alive. The department does not have any information about this. The Forest Department has verified the survival of 3.32 crore saplings planted under departmental schemes alone. Of these, 48.58 percent plants died and only 51.42 percent survived. Giving information on the question of Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Umang Singhar and MLA Madhu Bhagat, Minister of State for Forests Dilip Ahirwar said that only half of the saplings planted in the state are alive. According to the Forest Department, the total number of planted saplings on July 2, 2017 is 33237026. Of these, the number of living plants is 17093717 and the number of dead plants is 15320594. Whereas 7492958 saplings were planted from CAMPA fund, 25050213 saplings were planted from departmental items and 693855 saplings were planted from schemes.
