Giridih: A heart-wrenching incident took place in Jilimtand village of Chhachdo Panchayat of Dumri police station area of Giridih district of Jharkhand. Here a mother and her son were burnt alive to ashes. This tragic accident happened due to lighting a fire to escape the cold. To escape the harsh cold, the mother and son decided to spend the night in a pile of straw and lit a fire nearby, but a spark from the fire took away their lives.
According to the information, Nunia Devi and her son Babuchandra Murmu had gone to sleep in a straw house built in a barn at some distance from their house to escape the cold. This barn was a kind of hut like house made of straw. The straw caught fire due to the spark of fire, which quickly took a huge form. The fire was so intense that mother and son did not even get a chance to escape.
As soon as the information about the incident was received, the police of Dumri police station reached the spot and the bodies were taken out from the straw heap. The bodies were sent to the hospital for post-mortem. Police are investigating this accident and trying to find out whether the straw caught fire due to a spark or it happened due to some other reason. Local people told that Nunia Devi and Babuchandra Murmu were very poor and were living a simple life. He did not have enough resources to keep his life safe and that is why he chose to sleep in a straw house.
This accident also shows that wrongly lit bonfire, straw or wood to protect from cold can sometimes be fatal. During the cold season, many people adopt such unsafe methods, which are full of risks. One should be careful with fire. Especially when people are sleeping near straw, wood and other inflammable materials, otherwise a major accident can occur.
